PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Air Force Station Thanjavur came into being in 2007 with classes I to VIII. Initially, the school was housed in the tentative, makeshift buildings inside the campus of Air Force Station Thanjavur. Ever since its inception, the school has been growing from strength to strength. The school was developed from Middle School to Secondary School with introduction of classes IX and X in 2008-10 and further promoted to Senior Secondary Level with starting of classes XI and XII in 2010-12. The school has two sections in each class.
To accommodate a greater number of students getting admitted into the school, new building was constructed spanning across 9.68 acres of land, and the school was shifted to the new building and permanent location in the year 2022. The new building was officially dedicated to the nation in online mode by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi mode on the 20th of February 2024.
Commerce Stream, in addition to the existing Science Stream, was introduced at the senior secondary level in 2023-24 as a result of ever-growing students’ strength and catering to the fancies of the students and their parents.
Adding another feather to the crown of the vidyalaya, the coveted status of ‘PM SHRI’ (Pradhan Mantri School for Rising India) was bestowed on the school in the year 2022-23, with allocation of special fund to the school by the government of India, the aim of which is to see to it that the school is flourishing to become a model and pioneering school in the district of Thanjavur.
PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya AFS Thanjavur also enjoys the privilege of being one of the select few Kendriya Vidyalayas to have introduced Bal Vatika – 3 with effect from 2023-24.
The real strength of the school lies in its students and the staff. At present, the vidyalaya has enrolled about 1200 students under the motherly care of 35 teaching staff. The students are not merely taught the prescribed subjects but also trained to be shaped into responsible, patriotic and all rounded future citizens of a developed nation by a team of dedicated staff and the able and efficient guidance of a young and energetic Principal.
The medium of instruction is bilingual (Hindi and English). The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The ultimate objective of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya AFS Thanjavur and the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is to make the young generation face the challenges in life with confidence and scale great heights personally and thereby take the nation to greater heights.
